Since 2004, CGS has provided Group Day Habilitation Without Walls
Programs for individuals with developmental disabilities in Manhattan,
Bronx and Brooklyn.

Throughout the school year, a CGS Community Outreach professional
takes part in school transition fairs and parents’ workshops, meets with
graduating students and their families to identify what services and
programs they want, and discusses feasible choices for transition from
school to life as adults in their communities. The program centers on a
variety of work experience opportunities in the community - hospitals,
nursing homes, stores, entertainment complexes are just a few! - and
on discovering and enjoying social, recreational and physical fitness
activities and community resources.

The CGS Group Day Habilitation Program is a community-based model.

CGS also offers travel training to program participants. Door to door
transportation is provided for those whose needs make this necessary.

Desired outcomes include:
•  Moving up to a supported employment program
•  Improving independence, self-confidence and self-esteem
•  Gaining basic workplace social skills
•  Experiencing the satisfaction of being accepted as a valued,
   contributing adult community member
